The following is word-for-word from one of the inmates at Lompoc, because it was presented by him in written form. He is unable to talk. Years ago he was beaten by fists and rocks for being an outspoken Christian, hit in the head so hard he may never speak again, his language faculties impaired by violence. Yet he is among the most expressive of men: He writes everything he wants to say, and then makes a sound to let you know he’s done writing: a high-pitched bilabial fricative not unlike a birdcall. Then he gestures to his pad or simply hands it to you. His only other sound is “Aaahh!”
I would love to share two things with you:
Although the experience of Love can never be translated into words, there is one quality of Jesus that is so unique it clings to my memory. It happened in an instant where I was given an experience of being outside of time and space, and even beyond that.
I became one with something so big: Jesus is beyond size. The clearest quality of Jesus (Jesus is completely unlike anything of this universe) is that Jesus is constant. There is no change or interruption in Jesus’ unconditional love, in Jesus’ unlimited power, in Jesus’ infinite understanding. Jesus doesn’t shift or waver.
Jesus gave me a taste of something that can be relied upon, something real: the joy and love of which is beyond belief. I knew then that I had been communicated to by God.
I give Jesus my best!
The more you try your hardest to do what Jesus wants you to do, the more Jesus will help you do what He wants you to do. You will make mistakes. When you do, you go to Jesus and tell Jesus you made a mistake, and ask Jesus for forgiveness, and Jesus will forgive you. Make sure you always forgive others; then move forward doing your best!
If you gave me a million dollars and told me to carry out your will, and you gave me the power and understanding to carry out your will, but I did what I wanted to do; and then I came back to you for two million dollars and wanted more power and more understanding, would you give it to me when you knew that I was not ready to do your will? The answer for me: No! I would not give it to you!
You see, our minds get lost when it comes to Jesus. We think, ‘How can Jesus control all of creation simultaneously and take care of me at the same time?’
I will give you a glimpse of Jesus’ power to create and control and take care of us simultaneously: We can see that men and women create states, countries, and nations. Jesus creates light-years. To give you an idea of the created space in a light-year: Say I was in my jet traveling at the speed of sound (760 miles an hour), I would reach the moon in twelve days, twenty-two hours, and forty-eight minutes. I would reach the sun in 5,040 days (almost fourteen years). I would reach the nearest star in 3,800,000 years. I would reach the end of our [galaxy] in seventy-five billion years.
Then I change my jet to a spaceship that travels at the speed of light: 186,272 miles a second (and this is one million times faster than sound), and, after traveling at the speed of light for one million years more, I would go out of this galaxy into another galaxy, and the galaxy next to our galaxy has one hundred billion stars, and this galaxy is one hundred thousand light-years across. One light-year is almost six trillion miles.
We can look up into the sky and see two hundred million galaxies, and each of these galaxies has one hundred billion stars, and each of these two hundred million galaxies is a hundred thousand light-years across. And there’s more space after these two hundred million galaxies.
This is just a little of Jesus’ power to create and control all of His creations. For Jesus to take care of us is nothing. Jesus wants us to have more of this power. Jesus created us with a little power and gave us the plan how to use this little power to do His will, but we do our own thing. Then we go back to Jesus for more power.
Why should Jesus give us more power?
My answer to this question, the kind of power Jesus wants to give us…
I would not give you any more power, but, because Jesus is so loving, Jesus lets us keep the little power that He gave us at our creation. Jesus is so loving, if, as we learn what Jesus wants us to do, and we do the best that we can, Jesus helps us to do His will, and Jesus gives us more of His power to create and control, and we have to do things just as Jesus shows us. We cannot change a thing. Never! Always according to Jesus’ plan and in the way Jesus wants it done.
The relationship you want with Jesus? You can create it by doing just what Jesus wants you to do. Always do your best to make Jesus happy. Let Jesus’ light shine through you!
When I look at Jesus’ power to create and control, one word comes to my mind: Wow!”
