An Impression of Fr. Allan Smith

by Sarge Edwards

When I first met Fr. Allan, I felt that his transparency and humility raised him above denominational lines, and I knew he was my brother in Christ almost immediately, and definitely as the Kairos weekend progressed, and I got to know him better. That was not hard to do, as Allan was so open about his feelings, and was not shy about showing those feelings. That became freeing to me, as I have had trouble allowing my feelings to surface and show. I have had that battle all my life, even speaking now as a retired priest of the Episcopal Church, and as a participant in the Charismatic Renewal nationwide. Fr Allan's ability to show his feeling became a catalyst for me to be more open and real in my relationships with the team, and also with the residents we were working with. This surfaced in the table conversations, as well as in my presentations. I became a better communicator as a direct result of Fr Allan's presence among us on our Weekend. I'm only sorry that I could not have known him longer! Praise God for one who is now (in his ultimate "Kairos") in His Presence, forevermore!
