Sponsorship Letter

Please read "Sponsorship in Kairos" in the appropriate section of the Kairos book. Note that some of these instructions do not apply to our situation in Lompoc, but the material is still valuable.
At some point about 2 weeks prior to the Kairos weekend you will be given the name(s) of the resident(s) whom you are sponsoring. Please write the resident(s) within the next two or three days. It is critical that the resident(s) receive the letters before the Kairos weekend starts.
It is extremely important that you pray daily for the resident(s) you sponsor.
Do not use your home return address, and do not use printed letterhead stationary.
Your letter should be addressed as follows:

Your return address should be:

(Your Name)
c/o Golden State Kairos
P.O. Box 1178
Goleta, CA 93116

Do NOT -- now or ever -- put your own address on the letter or the envelope.

Your letter should be hand written.
Indicate in your letter that you understand the resident will attend the Kairos weekend, giving dates and times. Kairos #XX will begin for the residents Friday evening, Month day and will continue all day Saturday and Sunday, then end Monday night, Month day. Do not mention sponsorship at all. Instead, simply indicate that you are looking forward to meeting him. You may wish to describe yourself briefly so the resident can recognize you. Do not say anything "religious" at this point. This is a simple, warm invitation. Below is an example (but don’t write your letter exactly like this):

Dear _

I’m glad you decided to come to the Kairos weekend. I think you’ll enjoy it. You’ll be able to find me easily because I have gray hair and I always wear a plaid shirt. We’ll be there Friday evening, Month day and will continue all day Saturday and Sunday, ending Monday night, Month day. I look forward to meeting you. If you have any questions during the weekend, please feel free to ask me.
