Schedule (as of July 23, 2009)
Dear Kairos Brothers,
It’s been a while since I last communicated with you. I hope and pray you are having a safe summer and manage to get some relaxing time in the longer days that summer time offers us. FYI and its imperative our Kairos community is aware that team sign-ups for Kairos #30 are currently running lower than anticipated. In particular with the number of clergy so far signed up and committed. There is only one clergy whose application has been received. Kairos #30 needs your prayers and help in recruiting laity & especially clergy servants to bring Christ’s love to USP-Lompoc. If you have sent in your application, thank you very much for prayerfully deciding to serve on this K-30 team. Also, if you have prayerfully committed to serve on the team but need to send in your application (electronically or via paper), please do so ASAP. This helps greatly in the behind-the-scenes logistics that take place in preparation for the actual weekend and team meetings.
On a good note, I’m proud to announce that Don Waters has graciously and humbly accepted to be the Agape Chairman. Tom’s willingness to be the K-30 Agape Chair means that he is in line (God willing) to follow Hank as the Kairos # 32 Leader. Hank Bowis will serve K-30 as the Observing Rector and Kevin English with dual roles, Advising Rector and Music Leader. We thank you gentlemen for accepting the invitation and challenge to serve the team and candidates.
For those of you that are finding hard signing up for the team due to financing your sleeping quarters, St. Mary’s Church in Lompoc, has allowed us in the past and will again for K-30 let us bunk down for the evenings. In addition, La Purisima Church in Lompoc, has also graciously allowed us to use their utility home for sleeping purposes during the Kairos weekend. La Purisima has two separate living room areas where we can bunk down and also another back room or two. It has a kitchen where we can stay up late to write our agape letters without bothering those that are sleeping. It also has a bathroom with a shower that we can all share. The location for the utility home is 307 S. I Street Lompoc, Ca. 93436.
Finally and of high importance, please be aware that a change has ocurred with regards to the second team meeting date and location. The current schedule calls for the second team meeting to be at St. Mary’s Church, in Lompoc on Sept. 5th. This happens to be a long weekend honoring Labor Day. I prayed and thought a lot about changing the date and I arrived at the conclusion to change the date and in conjunction also the meeting location. The second team meeting is now scheduled for Aug. 29th at Christ The King Church in Santa Barbara. Please, I ask that you please help me in spreading the news of these changes, to those Kairos brothers who may be away or not be able to receive this news via e-mail.
Your servant K-30 Leader,

Greetings dear brothers-in-Christ,
The time is near for Kairos #30 Team to form. Prison authorities have confirmed USP Lompoc, Kairos #30 for Columbus Day weekend, October 9th-12th, 2009. My name is Carlos Porras and I have been blessed with the privilege and honor to serve as leader for Kairos #30. I am contacting you for your prayerful consideration to be a part of the team. I pray, "God, lead me to the folks You want on this Kairos #30 Team -- and lead the folks You want on Kairos #30 to this call!”
But you may say, “I’m not worthy” or “Not this time” or ‘Let me think about it”. Thinking, it’s we who decide…However, little do we know that all along the Master Potter is at work. Yes, He is working in us by molding piles of clay lumps (you and me) to His needs. Pray about serving on the team this fall, and if God leads you to. Don't wait for an engraved invitation. The Master Potter has completed shaping the clay vessel His way. He will fill it with love, take it to USP Lompoc and pour out its contents on those that you find there. Return and do likewise each of the next three days. Do not be concerned that the vessel will become empty. He will keep it full…
“Abba, Father, you are the potter. We are the clay.”
So, are you feeling called to serve? Are you feeling our Lord telling you that it is your time for Kairos? Is the Master Potter working in you? I am praying that He is. Please, prayerfully consider being a part of the team for Kairos #30. My role is to be a servant leader. It is to hold you up in prayer, to provide you with information, and to give you tools to help you with what God has called you to do at Kairos #30.
The scripture theme for Kairos #30 Weekend is; Psalms 145: 8.
“The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.”
I am planning to use the same team formation model as the past two Kairos. We will have five team meetings. This will allow us to take our time, not be rushed, and let the Master Potter form His team. It is with this community of Christian brothers that Jesus will be able to witness to those who live in that Holy ground called, USP Lompoc.
I sincerely thank you in advance for your prayers and interest in Kairos. I look forward to receiving your application or call to help as you are led. May the love, peace, and joy of the Lord be with you!
Your humble servant,

The call to be part Kairos is not just for inmates. It is for you, and it is, especially, for me. The invitation to the Kingdom is extended to us all. We each have a choice. Is my face set toward this world, or is it set toward Jerusalem, and the doorway to heaven at the cross?
